A Rainy Day for the Picnic . . .
Despite the rain, the LOPOA Spring Picnic was a big success yesterday. We were dry and well-fed at the pavilion at Lawrence Shoals Park, and LOPOA members enjoyed updates from Bud Allen (chairman of the Development Plan Commmitte), Bob Hooson (Better Hometown Eatonton), Greta Hooson (YMCA), Bob Landau (District 3 Commissioner), Larry Moore (Scenic Byway's Rock Hawk Trail Project), Janet Pearson (Lake Oconee Water Watch, Rivers Alive, Education Committee), and Frank Whitten (fire chief).
Thanks to Jim & Jeanne Wagner for picking up the barbecue and to Joan & Frank Whitten for bringing all the supplies. And we've got some great cooks in LOPOA! Thanks to all who brought salads and desserts.
Sylbie Yon introduced our guest speakers, three officers from DNR, who informed the group about several upcoming programs and some changes in regulations which will affect Lake Oconee. Look for more details in future posts.
Several members brought their used printer cartridges for LOPOA to recycle and obtain office supplies. Please don't discard your used cartridges; bring them to the next LOPOA meeting or give them to any LOPOA board member or officer.
Those who came prepared to do a few hours' work on the Rock HawkTrail were disappointed to be rained out, but future work dates will be scheduled. Anyone who wants to volunteer at any time can make their own arrangements by calling the Georgia Power office at 706-485-8704. Volunteers are asked to sign in and will be given directions to the portion of the trail that needs work.
Rivers Alive, the annual cleanup on Lake Oconee, will be held on Saturday, October 1. Save that day to join many other volunteers for a day of community service and fun. You'll be given cleanup supplies, get a free lunch, a Rivers Alive T-shirt, a goody bag, and have a chance to win other prizes.
The next LOPOA meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m.
